Basic Mac Mail

Compose and send new email in Mail: Click on the New mail button, add one or more email addresses in ‘To’ field and a clearly worded subject in ‘Subject’. Add line breaks as you type so the message is easy to read. Read over the message then click ‘Send’

Reply to email in Mail: Open the email by double clicking it in the message list or select it and read it in the reading pane. Click the Reply arrow or the double arrow to Reply all. Change subject if useful by clicking in the Subject area. For long emails, reply within the received email so it is easier to read – with your default mail font (see ‘Set a default font for new messages in Mail’)

Forward an email in Mail: Open the email by double clicking it in the message list or select it and read it in the reading pane. Click on the Forward arrow (pointing to the right). Add one or more email addresses in the ‘To’ field. Change subject if useful by clicking in the Subject area. Type your message, read over it then click ‘Send’

Attach pictures or documents to an email in Mail: In a new email, click in the text area to see the paperclip icon in the top small tool bar that apears above the message and click on the it To attach a file from your computer, click ‘Browse this computer’, browse to the file you wish to attach and click ‘Open’ on a PC or XXX on a Mac

Insert pictures in an email in Mail: In a new email, click in the text area to click on the three more options dots ‘…’ on the far right of the top tool bar. See ‘Add-ins’, ‘Insert’ and ‘Options’ and under ‘Insert’, click on ‘Pictures’ to open your computer’s file area. Browse to the photo you wish to insert and click ‘Open’ on a PC or XXX on a Mac

Add a link to an email in Mail: In a new email, click in the text area to click on the link icon to the right of the top tool bar. The ‘Insert link’ box will appear. Type the name of the website in the ‘Display as’ box and the website address in the ‘Web address (URL) box, then click OK to add it to the email. Wait a few seconds for the graphic box to appear

Unsubscribe from email messages or block messages in Mail: Open the email in its own window (double click on it) then go to bottom of the email and look for the ‘unsubscribe’ link (often in small text and underlined), click on it to open the Unsubscribe webpage then confirm as required. To block an annoying email sender that does not offer this, open Settings (click on cog icon – top right) ❯ Email ❯ Junk email and under ‘Blocked senders and domains’ click ‘+ Add’ and type or paste the copied email address or domain press Enter then click ‘Save’
