Set up Mac Mail

How Mac Mail works with your email account servers: Adding an email account to the Mail app means that your email server mailboxes sync to the app and you benefit from all the great features that the client app gives you – compared to using webmail

Introduction to Mail: The areas to get to know are – The left hand Navigation pane showing from the top, Favorites then each email account added with the relevant mailboxes (Inbox, Drafts, Sent Items, Deleted Items, Junk email and more) then the top menu bar and toolbar below

Add an email account to Mail: Go to File ❯ Settings ❯ account and enter the type of account then the email address and password

Change Options in Mail to make it easy to use: to turn on Spell check and text predictions – File ❯ Options ❯ Mail – ‘Compose messages’ and check ‘Show text predictions when typing plus ‘Always check spelling before sending. For clear replies, scroll down and check the ‘Preface comments with’ box in ‘Replies and forwards’ and your name. Scroll to the bottom and click ‘OK’ to save changes

Set a default font for new messages in Mail: Go to menu bar and click on Mail ❯ Settings ❯ Fonts & Colours ❯ Message font ‘Select’ button to open the Font box. Select a Typeface from a Collection or search, then select a Size (12 is easier to read than 11). Do not click in first option ‘Message list font’ as it is difficult to change it back!

Set a signature for outgoing messages in Mail: Go to menu bar and click on Mail ❯ Settings ❯ Signatures – Google Search ‘Create and use email signatures in Mail on Mac’ for step by step

Display external images in incoming Mail: Go to menu bar and click on Mail ❯ Settings ❯ Privacy and make sure that all three boxes – ‘Protect Mail Activity’, ‘Hide IP Address’ and ‘Block All Remote Content’ are unchecked
